Let’s Talk: Chaos.
Sometimes Things Just Happen.
As I type this, I am surrounded by piles of books that used to be sitting in my bookcase. They currently take residence on my desk and the surrounding surfaces.
Yesterday, in an attempt to rearrange these books, I brought down 3 shelves almost on top of me. Unbeknownst to me, the hardware had become loose.
After my husband and I fixed that section of the bookcase that fell, we preemptively began fixing the other to avoid this happening on both sides.
If you can believe it or not, the other side had loose hardware too, and all 4 shelves toppled down on both of us as we attempted to fix them.
Do I understand why this happened?
Absolutely not.
I had just hired my first cleaning service, and they were finishing up as the shelves went down on me.
Why…?
Why on a day in which I was booked solid with appointments and had the house cleaned did this messy and possibly dangerous situation occur?
I don’t know.
There’s no way to predict it!
The truth is, life is unpredictable
It was not an ideal situation.
I did not want to pick up a mess of books off of the floor.
I didn’t want to invest time from this weekend into fixing the bookshelf, but here we are.
It’s going to be ok.
I’m going to practice pivoting and get on with my day.
This situation doesn’t just apply to my bookcase mess.
Life can be chaotic at any moment. It can completely break our hearts and make us question what’s next.
As Fulton J Sheen famously said, “Sometimes the only way the good Lord can get into some hearts is to break them.”
Did I need my heart broken a little when this bookcase fell apart?
I don’t know yet.
We will have to wait and see.
