It Won’t Always Be Like This
This is a message of hope, no matter what life looks like for you right now.
Let’s say you are walking through a magnificent garden. The scent of the flowers in the slightly blowing wind is a perfume you would wear daily. The grass below your bare feet is soft, and the birds sing songs in the trees around you.
You make your way to a peach tree with fruit fresh on the branch. You search for the juiciest one, pluck it off of the branch, and take a bite.
Ew! It’s rotten on the inside.
You throw it down on the ground and spit out what is left in your mouth. Without searching for a new peach to try, you leave, and make your way back through the garden.
The scent of the flowers has suddenly become nauseating, the grass pokes at your feet, and the sound of the birds has become a nuisance.
What happened?
We often get so caught up in a small moment, that we forget about all of the others.
Think about the times you’ve had an amazing day, and you allowed a phone call or text to ruin it.
Or maybe the time you stubbed your toe (yes it hurts, don’t get me wrong) but the pain eased up over a few minutes and you let that spoil your day.
Maybe even a time when you were the last to shower, there was no hot water left, and suddenly your entire day was the worst in history.
You find what you seek.
If you look for reasons that your day was bad, you will find them. Then you’ll find enough for your week to be bad, then your month, then your year.
But what if you reframed those thoughts instead of letting them ruin your day?
That phone call or text wasn’t ideal, but you had a great day at work, or your little one learned a new skill.
Stubbing your toe sucked, but it isn’t broken, and you still got to finish that meal prep you were wanting to do.
Ending your day with a cold shower wasn’t what you had in mind, but the hot coffee you started your day off with really hit the spot!
We must choose to actively find the good. That doesn’t mean pretending the bad isn’t there, but It does mean not allowing it to make us a victim.
Moments are going to come and go, but there is something about the season you are in that you will want to remember. You will hang on to these memories that you are making as you grow old. Through good and bad days, would you rather remember the negative or the positive?
The truest statement about the present moment is this:
“It won’t always be like this.”
That shouldn’t make us dread change or put fear in our hearts, but rather make us excited for the future.
The bad times you are suffering through – it won’t be like this forever. You will access your resilience, you will persevere, and you KNOW that the good times are just around the corner. Yearn for the good times, but not so much that you forget to harvest lessons from the tough times.
The good times you are in – they’re going to change to another kind of good, or maybe transition to a tough time. Don’t live in fear of losing the good, but live in the present moment you are in. Soak in every second, and remember that the seasons will change again.
Every season of life has a reason. It shapes us into who we are. Harvest from the current season you are in and anticipate greatness from the next.
Until next time,
Audye
